Objective of the Activity: This assignment aims to
familiarize students with the concept of Job design
and its different approaches. It will help students
redesign a certain job while working
in an
organization to improve their satisfaction and motivation towards
work.
Premise:
DESCON Engineering Ltd. is a leading organization working as an engineering consultant management organization
since 1973. The Organization faces employee turnover despite being a
good
performer in the market. Managers observe dissatisfaction and
demotivation among employees, which are determined by several
factors. Monotonous and repetitive tasks, reduced work flexibility, less
challenging work, and reduced creativity
and innovation can make the daily tasks boring for
employees.
Employees who are happy
and engaged are those who stay with the
organization. Thus, managers
want to motivate individuals on the job to be on a continual
learning path instead of working in
the same pattern every day. Managers should design
jobs deliberately and
thoughtfully
to reflect the demands of changing environments, which in turn produce
stimulating and
interesting work and adds variety, challenge and depth to the employee’s daily
routine.
Point
of Discussion:
In view of the above scenario, DESCON Engineering Ltd. needs to reduce the turnover of employees by working on
different techniques. Suggest three approaches to employee job design in
a way that they feel more satisfied, motivated and responsible in their daily
tasks.
